UC Green NeighborWoods Community Tree Planting a Success
University City, PA (October 27, 2007)- Philadelphia's NeighborWoods
Month planting was a success thanks to the 200 volunteers who came
out on a rainy Saturday, including volunteers from Drexel University,
University of the Sciences, Building with Books, Overbrook High
School Camera, Boy Scout Troop 270, American Cities Project NEAT,
Project MARS, Philadelphia Green Tree Tenders, and volunteers from
the local neighborhoods and other parts of the city. WCAU NBC Channel
10 also braved the rain to deliver a 6pm news story about the tree
planting.

SUCCESS STORY
Project CommuniTree
(St. Louis, MO)- Forest ReLeaf of Missouri, through Project
CommuniTree, operates a community-assisted nursery which can care for
14,000 seedlings. It also annually distributes between 4,000 and
5,000 free trees to individuals and groups for planting on public or
nonprofit properties in the region.

RESEARCH
Trees Boost Rental Rates at Office Buildings
(September 2003)- This study investigates the effect of trees and
landscaping on office rental rates, based on a comparison of 85
office buildings that comprise 270 individual and unique leases in
the Cleveland metropolitan area. A strong positive effect was shown
for buildings with good landscaping aesthetics and shade provided by
trees.

PUBLIC POLICY
ACT Supports H.R.720
Washington, DC (October 11, 2007)- In a letter to Senators Frank R.
Lautenberg and David Vitter, ACT and other members of the SUFC urged
the Senate to pass a version of the Water Quality Financing Act of
2007, a House bill that restores $2 billion over the next five years
to the clean water state revolving fund. ACT and SUFC members also
urged the Senate to expand the use of green infrastructure practices
and strategies.

The Alliance to Save Energy invites the public to attend EE Global
(Energy Efficiency Global Forum & Exposition) Public Day- an "Energy-
Efficiency World's Fair." With winter just around the corner, this
fun day will showcase ways to save money on your energy bills and
help the environment through energy efficiency. Guests of the
Alliance for Community Trees are invited to attend free of charge..

Tyson Funds Community Programs Deadline: Rolling
The Tyson Foods Corporate Giving Program supports a wide range of
nonprofit organizations in the communities where the company has
operations. Areas of interest for local giving include families,
communities, food safety, education, environment, and agricultural
organizations.
