Million Trees NYC Launches During National NeighborWoods Month
New York (October 9, 2007)- Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and New York
Restoration Project (an ACT member) Founder Bette Midler today
launched the Million Trees NYC initiative to plant and care for one
million trees throughout the five boroughs in the next decade. The
Mayor and Ms. Midler planted a street tree in the Morrisania section
of the Bronx- a neighborhood with too few trees and high rates of
asthma- and declared the Carolina Silverbell to be the first of one
million trees. Through a mix of public and private plantings, Million
Trees NYC, an important initiative of PlaNYC, will expand New York
City's urban forest by 20%.

measuring watershed forest cover and techniques for maintaining or
increasing this cover. This manual is part of a three-part manual
series on using trees to protect and restore urban watersheds.

PUBLIC POLICY
College Cost Reducation and Access Act
Washington, DC (September 7, 2007)- Staff at 501c3 organizations are
now recognized as 'public sector' employees. Among numerous other
provisions, the legislation makes individuals eligible for loan
balance forgiveness. This new law should make ACT members even more
competitive in hiring recent college graduates and attracting talent.

through environmental education and job training. The work teaches
