SUCCESS STORY
Dealing with Drought and Water Restrictions
Ensuring that trees receive adequate water is labor intensive and
complicated by water shortages and drought conditions in many areas
throughout the country. Trees Atlanta, in partnership with the city's
Department of Watershed Management, recycles the water flushed daily
from fire hydrants to soak 3,000 downtown trees and hundreds in
surrounding neighborhoods.

RESEARCH
New Research Linking Invasive Species and Climate Change
Washington, DC (July 1, 2008)- Interactions between climate and
biological invasions were the theme of a special section in the June
2008 issue of Conservation Biology. The Environmental Law Institute's
Invasive Species Program and the U.S. EPA's Global Change Research
Program brought together leading experts to assess links between
invasive species and the climate.

PUBLIC POLICY
Support the GIVE Act
Washington, DC (August 6, 2008)- America's volunteers play a vital
role in delivering services to communities through nonprofits. But a
quirk in federal tax law has created a barrier that is preventing many
volunteers from helping underserved communities. As a result,
nonprofits have been losing volunteers because of high gas prices and
unfair tax statutes. Fortunately, a bill was recently introduced to
fix this problem: the Giving Incentives to Volunteers Everywhere Act
of 2008 (GIVE Act, S.3429).

EVENTS
Marketing & Communications- Part I: Marketing 101
National Webcast: October October 16, 2008
This session kicks off a four part series on Marketing and
Communications anchored by TreePeople's Director of Communications,
Laurie Kaufman. This first session is on Marketing 101. Translating
the commercial world of product, price, and distribution into the tree
world requires marketing... otherwise known as a series of strategic
activities or decisions to create value in the mind of a specific
customer. For most tree groups the focus is social marketing-
influencing perceptions and awareness of specific audiences.
