NATIONAL NEWS
Nurturing the green economy
(Philadelphia, PA)- Rep. Allyson Schwartz and Mayor Michael Nutter
recently wrote a powerful op-ed in the Philadelphia Daily News about
going green. On the heels of legislation introduced by the
Congresswoman, their article discusses how clean, sustainable, and
livable communities go hand-in-hand with economic growth, particularly

Underground Soil Cells First in PA
(Pittsburgh, PA)- The street trees outside of the new August Wilson
Center for African American Culture are among the first to benefit
from underground soil cell technology call Silva Cells. It is
comprised of open stacks of plastic "cells" that are sturdy enough to
support a sidewalk above while housing non-compacted soil in the voids
below. The cells also have the added benefit of providing additional
storm water storage on site, which decreases the load on the City's
storm system.
