Just back from an exhausting week away which encompassed two Cramps gigs =
in Notts & London, a wedding in Sheffield, two Killing Joke gigs in =
Rotterdam & Paris, and Hanoi Rocks in London.

In summary, the Killing Joke days of the trip:

Sunday - Rotterdam

After 4 hours sleep following a fantastic wedding and reception, (how =
many wedding discos feature the likes of Killing Joke, the Cramps, =
Jane's Addiction, New Model Army, the Clash etc etc throughout the =
evening, rather than token songs??), surfaced hungover in Travel Inn, =
Sheffield at 06:00, woke a still very drunk Iain, and attempted to leave =
for Liverpool. Got car-park ticket validated, then got lost trying to =
find the car in the NCP. After a few hikes up & down the stairs, =
realised we were on wrong side of car-park, and located the missing =
vehicle. Drove to exit, then found the  exit machine was broken. It =
wouldn't take the ticket, which ended up stuck neither in, nor out of =
the machine. Sent Iain back to hotel, who called out the car park =
attendant, who fortunately arrived only minutes later, to free us from =
the car-park. After that thankfully minor delay, had a good run over =
snake pass, around Manchester, and across to Liverpool airport, (it's =
great when there's no other traffic on the roads). Flight was =
uneventful, and (unusually for Easyjet), on-time!! Then caught train on =
to Rotterdam, where our friend Marianne was waiting to meet us with =
Josina & Nema, (whose names I'm sure I've spelt incorrectly), and took =
us back to her house, where Iain proceeded to get drunker, and I =
snatched a much needed extra couple of hours kip.

Next went back into Rotterdam, (via Josina's, so we could move some =
furniture ready for carpet fitters... rock'n'roll!!), and grabbed a very =
nice Greek meal before heading to the venue. As usual, timed things =
badly, and missed the support band. Bumped into AC & Nick as we went =
through the door, and delivered a bottle of cider to Darryl on the merch =
stall, (as it's the only tipple he touches, he misses out somewhat on =
european tours). Had a quick chat about the tour so far, (apparently not =
as well attended as it should have been due to lack of local publicity =
for the shows), then made our way in to get a quick drink before the =
show started. Next found Bo, (I think - sorry if not, I'm terrible =
recalling names & faces..) & Matt at the bar, and had a brief discussion =
about Brussels etc. Also found another English friend, Pete, who lives =
in Amsterdam, so touched base with him. .... and than the show started, =
and I made my way to the front during Communion, and proceeded to enjoy =
an amazing show. Crowd were a bit slow to get warmed up, but the =
atmosphere was superb once they got moving, (not quite as much fun as =
Amsterdam imo, but close), the band, however seemed to be really =
enjoying themselves, and the set was now longer, and included Follow the =
Leaders... hoorah!! Extremely happy, but also very hot & dehydrated by =
the end, (and feeling a little sick after bouncing around on a full =
stomach - will I ever learn??). I drained about 10 glasses of water =
before speaking to anybody, then said our goodbyes to everyone we could =
find and left early, (as we had another early start ahead of us, and =
Marianne had to get up for work) - apologies to fellow gatherers if we =
appeared anti-social as a result.

Monday - Paris

Another early start, surfaced at 07:00 so Marianne could run us to the =
metro near her work, and caught that to Rotterdam Centraal. Got some =
toasties and coffee while we waited, then found our Thalys train to =
Paris. These trains make ours look like the horse & cart, being fast, =
comfortable & on time. Unfortunately couldn't manage claw back any lost =
sleep, so arrived at Gare du Nord even more knackered than we'd been the =
previous day. Greeted on the platform by 3 people in plain clothes who =
wanted to see our passports. On the warning of another passenger who =
said they were not customs officers, my natural suspicion kicked in, and =
I asked for ID, and the guy flashed a tatty looking card with his photo =
on it. Still not convinced this was not a scam I tried to walk off, and =
the guy pulled a gun on me!! so I gave in, and presented the passports, =
which were examined, and passed to another officer whilst our bags were =
searched, then to our immense relief everything was returned. Not the =
most pleasant Welcome to Paris I've ever encountered I have to say.

Walked the half a mile to our hotel, which was within spitting distance =
of the venue, then spent several hours drinking vodka, and trying to =
find the energy to leave the hotel & find an early dinner. Eventually =
left, and wasted more time trying to find Le Restaurant, where we =
enjoyed an amazing meal a few years ago, before giving up and finding =
any restaurant that was serving food at 06:30. As with Rotterdam, this =
made us late again, and we missed Cechimor, arriving at the venue about =
15 minutes before KJ were due onstage. Unfortunately, somebody must have =
got marmalade on the intro CD, as it jumped & skipped for what seemed an =
age whilst many of the crowd started booing, before the band interrupted =
it, and came on stage to silence them. Another great show, but sadly my =
body was feeling the effects of cumulative sleep deprivation, =
dehydration, and maybe something in the food that disagreed with me, so =
I wasn't able to enjoy it as much as I should. I felt very sick for much =
of the show, but battled on trying to ignore it until the end of =
Pssyche, when I finally had to give in and retire to the back, where I =
downed one of Darryl's 2 litre bottles of water, and collapsed against =
the wall for both encores. Still can't quite believe I had to sit out =
"Follow the Leaders"... I must be getting old??

After the show, as I slowly started to recover from green to white, =
Christophe introduced himself to Iain & I, and also said a brief hello =
to Mik before he & Paula left. Also had a quick chat with our friend =
Owain, who's working the backline on this tour, but he was incredibly =
busy loading out. Whilst we chatted to Darryl & Patrick at the =
dismantled merch stall, Raven joined us for a short while, and =
possibilities of Giga-0, (www.giga0.com), supporting at Manchester or =
Sheffield were discussed... (fingers crossed). We all left shortly after =
that, and chatted to Christophe, Stephane (I think - sorry - terrible =
with names... again), and another guy, before they headed off for food, =
and we went to grab a few hours sleep before another early start to =
catch the RER to CDG and fly back to the UK...
