i'm sure most of you will be thinking about manchester by now but not being
online at home this is the first chance i've had to report back from
liverpool. really wonderful to see them again after so long. bev's first gig
(!) and ceres (not even six - how cool is that: first gig is KJ?!) enjoyed
it too. (some of you who were there probably noticed a little girl wearing a
jester hat with flashing lights on. i was the fat cunt in the brown jester
hat with the inexplicably attractive blonde girl at the front stage right
i.e. bang in front of his geordieness. preston crew you were right next to
us i think and darrin i recognise you from the photo and i must confess i
did notice you girlfriend too!!! mik didn't see you or paula mate sorry
about that. brian, i do remember seeing you at the gig but didn't know that
was you! d'oh!)
strangely one person who wasn't there was leigh who despite telling us all
in no uncertain terms that he would settle his scores with me should i show
up to any gigs, as i'm sure everyone remembers, was nowhere to be found.
must have had a cold or not wanted to miss 'will & grace' or something.
anyway, the set list was similar to other gigs. started with 'communion',
then pretty much the euro gig tracks but with 'tension' in the main set not
the encore and 'kings and queens' added. no 'asteroid' for encore just
'pandemonium' due to ridiculous 10pm kerfew.
as has been mentioned the crowd was not particularly big or active but
having ceres there that suited us fine. the sound quality was good, geordie
still tight as a gnat's chuff and the PRONG rhythm section much better than
dugmore/youth. jaz looked remarkably well, geordie in good shape just bald
now! raven has clearly let himself go but the look suits him! nick walker on
keys looked half everyone else's age and did an admirable job.
highlights for me (apart from all of them, obviously) were 'kings & queens',
'change', 'tension' and 'fall of because', even 'loose cannon' sounded
great! all the new stuff sounded fucking great in fact. geordie seemed to
enjoy the new material and WTF! tracks the most. jaz still pulled those
crazy faces, although he was quieter than usual between tracks. some
comments i remember were "you never know, you could choke on a tic-tac", "it
takes longer when you get older" (referring to raven going for a piss),
"that's not water" (reffering to his drink, obviously. don't think it was
raven's piss though coz it was clear.), "i think by now we can all see it's
corrupt" before 'wardance' (which i was pleased to find they have speeded up
compared to the PANDEMONIUM tour)... um... jaz looked pleasantly shocked
when the audience knew the words to the start of 'frenzy'!
it felt odd to be leaving the venue at 10.15 pm but apart from that it was
just another awesome JOKE gig where they prove once again, if proof were
needed, that they shit on everyone else from a vast height with nonchalant
ease.
bev took some photos with her cheapo digital camera. nowhere near as good as
brains but i'll put them on the yahoo group at some point. for those going,
hope manchester is as good a show, perhaps a bit longer and rowdier!
