Alex,
My fav today is still the Orsay Museum.
Once in your journey use the taxi, even if its a bit expensive, to follow
the seine from west to east and reverse
instead of tube in the morning (10AM-11:30AM) or in the afternoon
(2:30PM-16:30PM).
Paris needs to be seen in a shiny morning ...

There is a funicular up the butte of montmartre, which reduces the number of
steps by about 3/4 so you can still check out the view & the basilique. From
there it's not far to Espace Dali Montmartre, a permanent collection of his
sculptures, and lesser know pictures.

It might be classed as touristy, but not as obvious as some, the catacombs
(1 place Denfert-Rochereau) are creepily fascinating, these are tunnels
under the city lined with skulls & skeletons over millions of dead
parisiens. I think there are a few steps down & up though, but not too far.

Also, get the lift up Tour Montparnasse rather than the Eiffel Tower. It a
big ugly office block in Galeries Lafayette, but the advantage over the
Eiffel tower is it's much cheaper, it's taller, and the view from the top is
not spoiled by itself as a blot on the landscape.

I also love wandering around Notre Dame at night, and the Ile de la Cite.

Nothing else jumps to mind at the moment. I should go back to bed - full of

Go to Montmatre to the Sacre Couer. Lots of  steps though so Peg might get
tired. This is the area where the Stranglers shot their La Folie video. It
is lovely in the evening. Plenty of nice restaurants and may put Peg in the
mood for luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv.

Also check out the Pompidou centre (sleeve of the JJ Burnel solo
album -Euroman. Fascinating.

They also have some street markets in the Northern part of Paris at
weekends - but watch your wallet!

Paris is a wonderful city. Make sure you eat a creme brulee for me!

    As I may have mentioned, the wife and I are taking a last minute holiday
before the spikey mallet of impending parenthood biffs us in the hooter.
Peg's already in Germany on business right now (for the annual Frankfurt
bookfair), and I'm flying over on Saturday to rendez-vous with her. From
there, we're taking a train to Paris for a few days (back on the 18th with a

remember finding probably the only Punk Rock record store in Paris at the
time called L'EVASION. Wonder if it's still there!) In any event, I'm going
to be there for about one full week, and would *HAPPILY* welcome any
suggestions of places/things to go see/do/experience/etc. I'm not talking
about the obvious touristy shit like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and stupid
Jim Morrison's grave, I mean cooler, a bit more esoteric stuff. Most of you
know my sensibilities, so let them be your guide. Nothing outside of Paris
either, as being that Peggers is preggers, we want to keep this journey
relatively low-maintenance.
