To take that a step further, "Eighties" is on the soundtrack to "Weird Science" (and plays fleetingly during a party scene).

I'm sure Danny Elfman is familiar with the `Joke. I'll have to bring myself to listen to "Weird Science" again.

Entirely possible. Danny Elfman was involved with the music. He was in a new wave band called "Oingo Boingo" and was probably familiar with the Joke... Also "Weird Science" was directed by John Hughes... In another Hughes directed film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", A Killing Joke poster can be seen Ferris' bedroom. I'm sure it was no co-incidence that you heard a similarity between the two.
