HEADLINE: 80's rockers sign up for gigs
Goth heavy and classic rock will come to Keighley in the New Year as a host
of well-known names are brought to the town by music promoter Trotwood.
Making their Keighley debuts will be Hawkwind Marillion Killing Joke and
Eddie and the Hotrods while The Mission is likely to return.
Trotwood aka Roger Nowell has already confirmed are punk band Vibrators on
March 17 and local band Operatorsix on December 30 both at the New Variety
Club.
Trotwood who is organising the Paul Weller concert says heavy-metal band
Hawkwind Goth rockers The Mission and rock band Marillion will be at
Victoria Hall.
Killing Joke are likely to be at the New Variety Club while Eddie Wilko
Johnson and popular rock trio Hamsters could also play Keighley.
Trotwood said he had attracted an older audience than for his previous
concerts and believed they would return for old-time bands such as the
Hotrods Nine Below Zero and the Yardbirds.
He added: "I'll have more gigs like that without a doubt. The band had a
good time and said it would mention the venue to other bands."

n A wild night of jigging reeling rocking and rolling is promised by Johnny
and the Poorboys at their annual Celtic Christmas Ceilidh.
Sensational songs of the Sixties will also be offered as popular Keighley
band The Big Bang provide support at the December 18 bash.
The "Reverend" Johnny said he'll be joined by his brothers The Doctor Jacky
the Lad Quo and Lizzy Stardust Firm Hands and Morris Minor.
In other words he'll perform alongside musicians Lee Crabtree Ken Gilroy
Nick Procter Graham Dixon Phil Wilson and Aidan Williams.
The present Poorboys line-up has been together for well over a year
highlighting the Trowbridge Festival's second stage last summer and selling
2500 copies of a CD.
"There are offers of shows coming in from all over the country " said
Johnny. "Tickets are selling well for this concert so get your skates on!"
The Big Bang will play covers by the likes of the Rolling Stones Beatles
Animals and Shane Fontaine.

n Keighley band Blue Manhattan makes a rare public appearance on Tuesday
when it plays the Causeway Foot in Ogden.
The quintet plays acoustic music ranging from 1930s jazz standards to
contemporary plastics at the pub on the main road to Halifax.
James O'Dwyer who sings and plays violin mandolin and cello said: " Some
fabulous klezmer dance tunes are thrown in for good measure.
"Material includes a Yiddish arrangement of Mozart's Turkish Rondo as well
as songs by Fats Waller Sting and Lennon and McCartney."

n Keighley band Random Hand will perform its "politically-charged ska-core
mix-up" in support of 1980s ska bands Bad Manners and The Beat.
The appearance at Bradford club Rio on December 18 comes after Random Hand
headlined last weekend's first rock concert at Keighley club Chrome.
The band returns to Keighley on January 29 to play with major touring band
Zen Baseball Bat and the "soon-to-be-big" Catch It Kebabs.
Meanwhile the bandplays a gig December 23 featuring Brand New Analogues Wet
Paint and possibly Breene.
n Keighley folk performer Laura Hockenhull is at this month's Demon Barbers
Session at the Love Apple Cafe in Bradford on December 19.
Admission to the 7pm show costs £6 (£3 concessions).
