COVENTRY'S rock royalty will be at The Jailhouse tonight, to give an up and
coming band the seal of approval.
Neville Staple from the legendary Specials will watch the newest signings to
his Rude Boy Records label, when Leicester-based band Ictus, play tonight.
And Paul Raven, from the 1980s band Killing Joke, who has also worked with
the talented new group is likely to make an appearance.
Ictus is a three-piece punk rock outfit, made up of Aaron Murray, (vocals,
guitar) Chris Byrne, (bass, vocals) and Adam Gent, (drums, vocals).
The band have worked on recording their debut album in Coventry as well as
gigging across the UK and winning a slot on John Peel's BBC Radio show.
The lads were signed after they supported Neville Staple at Coventry's
Spencer Club during his last UK tour.
Staple has also recorded a new record, The Rude Boy Returns, due out on
September 9.
About their new signing, Ictus bassist Chris Byrne, 19, said: "It's a big
deal for me as my dad is really into The Specials and that's the music I've
grown up with since I was a little lad. Neville has done a lot of work with
us over the last few months - we went down to London with him and met Terry
Hall of The Specials too."
Since their signing, Ictus have played a gig in the French Alps and been
pencilled in for the annual Warp Tour, a celebration of music and
skateboarding.
They'll be playing at the The Jailhouse in Much Park Street, Coventry,
tonight from 8.30pm.
