Hm, got reminded of this
Had a good laugh when reading it a few years back,
not now
He was, in fact, characteristic of the best type of dominant male in the
world at this time. He was fifty-five years old, tough, shrewd, unburdened
by the complicated ethical ambiguities which puzzle intellectuals, and had
long ago decided that the world was a mean son-of-a-bitch in which only the
most cunning and ruthless can survive (
)
He genuinely loved children and dogs, unless they were on a site that had to
be bombed in the National Interest. He still retained some sense of humor,
despite the burdens of his almost godly office (
)
His detachment sometimes bordered on the schizophrenic; but most of the time
his innate shrewdness gave him a fingernail grip on reality. In short, he
was much like the rulers of China and Russia.

Subject: [kj] o/t krikkit
radio 4 has been broadcasting more of the hitch hikers' guide to the galaxy
series, covering the "krikkit wars"
basically, a planet full of folk live a contented life, happy in the
knowledge that there is nothing "out there". Until, one day...an object
crashes in from the sky. Suddenly the people of Krikkit realise theirs is
not the only world. There is a Universe out there.
Reaction? "It will have to go" (or something). And so they devised to
destroy all that was not Krikkit.
Gawd Bless Douglas, sci-fi comic or sooth sayer?
