Rok Dabla is really funny film and should be seen by
every Killing Joke fan. It features an excerpt of them
playing FRENZY on The Tube (with Raven in silly hat
and Geordie sporting big quiff - they were living in
the eighties) shortly after Jaz appears for the first
time, meeting Czechomor's violinist in a lift in a
hotel. "Are you getting out or what?" asks Jaz with
impatient impertinence. But the violinist has been
been hired to play to save the establishment paying
out royalties for muzak. Jaz and a skateboarding
midget both dig his fiddling bigtime. Jaz is
enthusiastic enough to offer him a chance to play with
the Czech Symphony Orchestra but the band's guitarist
has been inadvertantly standing in for a drag queen
and getting offered the job of backing an alcoholic
dry out singing legend with a big moustache so they
have to WAIT a while, to let a comet pass.
Jaz's offer is still open when they've finished seeing
ghosts stalking the stage and tall women with problems
backstage so he takes them out to the desert and
shouts quotes from the book of Genesis to them before
feeding them all drugs and frothing wine at the Fire
Dances where lo he painteth them with mud & black
paint and talks of a snake rising as the film makers
wisely give us a blast of EXORCISM.
They thought things had got strange with the former
alcoholic and his Asterixian 'tache, but for them Jaz
blurred the boundaries between waking and sleeping,
and the world of dreams leaked in........
Later it is revealed that the human race is descended
from alien genes and THE BEAST, but not before Jaz
waves his arms about a lot, a daft Dutchman eats a
goldfish and a few people spontaneously combust.
