Re. 'processing what's happening'; reminds me of the morning in 83, on a bus
down to Manly Wharf and listening to the 7th race (of 7) for the America's
Cup - Australia II came from 0-3 to win 4-3 and removed the Cup from its
home (Newport-Rhode Island) of 132 years which is the longest trophy defense
in sport - ferry pulls into Circular Quay and Sydney gets pissed for the
rest of the day.
on the other sadder note - 'pepper spray gun' just makes me think what an
unhealthy obsession with firearms your country has....

>From a lone Boston gatherer, and Sox fan, I don't think people here are
really processing what's happening. We've had failure for 86 years, at times
against all odds, and we don't know what the fuck to do with success. By the
way, the bars were almost empty tonite--in contrast to game 7 when the Sox
beat the Yankees. I think we wanted to beat the Yanks more than to win the
World Series (again, people seem to have no idea what to do if the Sox do
win the series).
And another issue is that the pigs (they don't desreve any other name, but
Peter West will probably call them "The people whose balls I love to lick")
killed a female college student who happened to be standing in the crowd
after the Sox beat the Yanks in game 7 (to get to the World Series). They
shot her in the eye with a pepper spray bullet, which exploded inside her
skull. They also injured another young man (he had a hole in his face and 12
other wounds on his front) and nearly killed a college student, who had to
have pellet fragments removed from his skull. The crime that these 2
students committed was standing on a steel girder, 10 feet high, outside the
ballpark. One of the pigs who fired the pepper spray bullets was also
videotaped hitting a handcuffed fan at the 1986 World Series! I was one of
the people quoted in the Boston paper and interviewed on talk radio for
protesting these pigs.
