Let me make some points on the issue discussed here.
Capitalism today is clearly a break on any progress of humanity - its ecomony, culture, art, technology, environment. Current so called War on Terror is nothing but a result of extreme contradiction produced by capitalism by its inner and intristic logic of development.
All here made references here to "communism" sounded like communism have already existed - in the case of Greg I believe it was in order to say it simply. But anybody with a bit of knowledge of communist ideas knows communism was never yet achieved - not even socialism as its first phase. (I know this also from my personal experience since I as the only gatherer lived in such "communism" for 16 years).
All so called "communist countries" (and here must be mentioned that none of these countries called themselves or described its regime as "communist") totalitarian as they were (or still are) were the result of degeneration of Russian Revolution. This counter-revolution was lead since 1924 openly by Stalin and lead not only to complete destruction - by method of murder - of the most progressive political force humanity ever built, the Bolshevik Party, but also historically put Soviet Union (and its clones in other countries from the scratch) on the road back towards capitalism.
Capitalism triumphed in late 1980s/early 1990s, but that lead to much faster development of corporate global power and competition - and thus to more fierce competion between major powers for spheres of influence, etc.
Terrorism is a method of struggle that is used by someone who faces militarily much stronger enemy. Religion is not the underlying reason but just a mere ideological justification (in any case). Similar as the racist ideology of "clash of civilisation" is in the end a mere justification for global intervention of US motivated first of all by the interests of US based corporations.
As regards Osetia events I think one shall denounce the terrorist act unless one sees that resposibility lies primarily with Russian leaders who deny Chechens basic democratic right to decide in what state they wish to live. After centuries of Russian domination it is quite understandable they are not very happy to live under Russian rule - and after two wars by Russian forces in Chechnya some of them are open to ideas of Islamists if no other ideas to liberate them are not on offer there.

The reason the west allows communist parites is that right now they are too small to be a threat. However, even today, when communists get too active, they are supressed. And ever heard of the Red Scare of the 50s? Even people who went to one meeting were blacklisted, becasuse the party was much bigger then and they had ties to the SU. The Soviets always banned other parties, because they were a threat to the gov. The problem was that capitalism returned withing the communist party iteslf, rather than from outside forces.
Of course Pol Pot was not a communist. But the educators and media love to say he was to make people (like the ones on this list who get all worked up) think communism is the worst thing possible.
As for Cuba, they have the best health care and best literacy rate in Latin America. They even sent 10,000 extra doctors to help out in Venezuela (albeit for political reasons).
As I said before, Bin Laden represents the capitalist group (getting stronger) that wants control of all Saudi oil, without US presence there.
As for communism, check out www.plp.org for articles about what went wrong in the old movement (Road to Revolution III) and what communism could and should be (Road to Revolution IV). I know it's hard to fight the lessons you've been taught you whole life, but capitalism has created worldwide misery and it's got to go.
