Ha ha, if I'd know the pics were gonna be shown here I'd have tried to look
far more evil and menacing! Ruining my image I am.
Yeah, good to meet up Alex... a few more pints and we coulda started
putting the world to rights! As it was, I did the Empire State Building
(decided to just pay after scaling two floors up a drainpipe... still quite
a bit to go ;-) ) It was a test of patience though, and I cracked
before I got out resulting in a couple of "FUCK OFF" interactions with
security and Obnoxious Fat Bastards in the elevator. Still, only happened
once in two weeks which ain't bad at all!
Top bizarre experience was buying a veggie hotdog out a place in the East
Village. Guy behind the counter asks where I'm from. "Oh, Scotland" I
reply, gazing longingly at the veggie delight soon to by in my paws. "Where
about in Scotland?" Mr.HotDog asks... "Edinburgh" I reply, giving it its
correct pronunciation thank you very much. "Oh I played in a punkrock
band that did a show in Edinburgh". "Oh yeah?" I ask "who was
it?". "The Action Swingers... musta been about 10 years or so
ago". "No way! It was 12 years ago, and it was my band that did the gig
with you!!!". I dunno what the chances of that happening are, but once a
lovely veggie hot dog is added into the equation, I'd say "very fucking
unlikely".
Also great munching on fine veggie hot dog (there's a theme to my eating
habits) whilst the diner played Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables. No-one
seemed to bother that they were munching their cruelty-free grub whilst "I
Kill Children" came out the speakers. Maybe even the old folk were DK's
fans! Punk rock veggie dining... now there's something I can get into! And
right along the street from two fine bars of the punk rock persuasion. The
Killing Joke seems to be gone from the Horseshoe jukebox Alex, but still
plenty goodies! And Manitobas provided us with a great drunken last
night... cool mixtape with ATV, Warsaw and the like... "what we need now is
Borstal Breakout" my friend says, not entirely serious... next song... yup,
you guessed it!
Hmm, I could go on... but I kinda have already. I've not even mentioned the
"mistaken for being in Oi! band security hassle at Washington airport"
story, ha ha, best not to really.
cheers,
Dave
Ps. Oh one thing that's making me laugh... I'd said to Alex that after the
meet-up at the Goldhawk, the list was in nice and friendly mode... "I
wonder how long it'll take for everyone to fall out again"... little did I
know it was happening as I spoke. So what was that, about 7 days of no
unrest?!!
