I was just flipping channels after returning from New Years Eve gig-going,
and saw this: On ESPN, the most popular sports cable network channel in the
US,
there was a live New Years Eve show. Musical guests included the group that
did the original "Wild Thing", some awful heavy metal Christian group, the
Killers, and, to my surprise, the NEW YORK DOLLS. I kept the show on for the
whole
hour, and, after playing "Auld Anxine" (whatever it's called), David
Johansen
jumped on stage and the Dolls did a rip-roaring version of "Personality
Crisis"! It sounded better than when I saw them live a few months ago. And,
Bruce
Springseen's buddy Steven Van Zandt played with them (he was also a co-host
for
the show), and showed off his new "Ramones Forever/Mondo Bizzaro" motorcyle
jacket. I guess there's some cool people on ESPN, but the main point is that
PUNK ROCK WILL LIVE FOREVER!
P.S. I also saw Bow Wow Wow on one of the morning sports shows about a year
ago.
