I took your advice & replaced my iPod's battery.  Works like a charm!  Thanks for the recommendation!!!

  i go for over 12 hours on the 3rd gen now. Changed it myself

   

    On the down side, battery span is short, and runs down quite quickly the more stuff you have on it. But, definitely a sound investment (that's a dreadful pun, sorry)
