Fluw,
I've read many of your posts regarding guitars etc and was wondering what you think of the Guitar Rig 2 software and hardware controller by Native Instruments - that is if you do have any experience with them. Regards, Mark

the package is ok and the amp will be enough for a bedroom and enough to annoy the f&^% out of anyone in the house ...but being a solid state amp it will sound terrible no matter how good she becomes and that will be discouraging to her. if you don't want to spend much right now, that is understandable, get this package and wait and see her development. ...if she starts to improve and seems committed, then get her a valve/tube amp within 6 months as the amp in that package will only hold her back.
for a better amp 15 watt amp, i would suggest this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-FENDER-Blues-Junior-15-Watt-Valve-Guitar-Amp_W0QQitemZ7396562474QQcategoryZ10171QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
this amp kicks serious ass and it is enough for a bedroom or to gig a 50/100 capacity pub/bar.
btw, an amplifier is the most important link in the sound chain. one could play a properly functioning cigar box guitar through a good tube/valve amp and get a better tone than with a 1000 dollar guitar through a solid state plinker like the one in the package.
also, very important, take her guitar to a professional luthier and have the guitar set up properly as it will most likely be far from "dialed in" and then do it every couple months or so. also have the luthier teach her how to set it up for herself. it is a necessity that she know how to. a good set up and a good amp can be make all the difference for a beginner.
one other thing, find her a decent acoustic guitar to practice on:
i would suggest one from this company: http://www.sagamusic.com/catalog/details.asp?ProductID=BG-60
that is a really sweet instrument for the money...
if the blueridge is too much then try one of these:
http://www.music123.com/Takamine-GS330S-i29851.music
imo, this is the best acoustic for the money out there. but don't buy anything cheaper than this one or you will be throwing your money away. look around the net, or go to a store where the salespeople make commission and beat the saleperson up till they "drop their pants" and you strike a good deal (even better if the salesperson is a lady!). i am sure you could find it cheaper than that. as it is priced roughly 40% over cost.
as for practice, this is my advice to help your daughter after the purchase. have your daughter split her practice between the acoustic and the electric and see which one she really takes to. those who start out on electric with no experience with acoustic tend to "not get it", and quickly tire of not being able to make the electric sound like the people on tv do.... but playing the acoustic - she will sound better earlier on most likely.
if she doesn't take to the acoustic then it is resellable at roughly the price you paid. as that takamine will hold it's value well but go any cheaper and you will get less than 50 bucks on resell. as for the electric guitar package, if she doesn't take to it you will have thrown away 100 bucks as the package might bring you 50 on resell.
best of luck
