[kj] (OT) Anime (and illness... )

Jim,

Sorry to hear about the osteoporosis.

I just watched Ghost in The Shell for the first time over the weekend - I
was living in Japan when it came out, and never got around to seeing it (a
frustration with living over there, is the lack of English subtitles on
Japanese stuff.)

I HIGHLY recommend Memories.

Here's a description:

A collection of shorts by Katsuhiro Otomo. The first, Magnetic Rose, is
about a group of space salvagers who respond to a distress call and find a
lavish space mansion. The second, Stink Bomb, is about a young man who takes
an experimental cold pill, and becomes a living disaster as his body exudes
an odious green cloud. The last is "Cannon Fodder," about a boy who lives
out his life in a vaguely Orwellian world, fighting a distant, invisible,
enemy.

I prefer the second two of the three shorts, and I think any KJ'er would dig
them too. It's about 90 minutes total, and got fairly wide dvd distribution
last year so shouldn't be hard to track down.

As far as series go, I've been enjoying Planetes, about a group of space
debris-collection workers in the not too distant future.

T.
