I found it very odd that Jack Straw made this request.
Our government talks of tolerance and then a senior minister seems intolerent of someone's cultural standards.

It was desecribed as being akin to asking a western woman to show a bit more cleavage.

Insensitive and wrong.

No, a western woman wouldn't get away with wearing a bikini on a beach in Saudi. The Saudi's are hardline and  it would be nice if they allowed some flexibility. They don't so people should work within the rules.

It is not illegal to wear the veil, just as it is not illegal to have sunglasses on. Have blue hair, tattoos, piercings. Would Straw have made a similar request? I think not.

The man was a fool for making the suggestion.

Similarly Jaz is a fool for telling people in the muslim world to not wear western style clothes.
But then we know he's a big gob!

You may label it as simple, but its too complex for you to give a reasonable

  It is quite a simple situation thought. Jaz doesn't want Muslims to wear 
Western clothes and Jack doesn't want Western women to wear Eastern clothes.

is uncomfortable . Would a Western women get away with wearing a Bikini on a

  The hypocrisy of the Muslims is astounding . The Pope says that Islam was 
a violent religion , so in protest and disagreement Muslims hijack a plane 
and murder a Nun . A muslim Policeman asks not to guard the Israeli embassy 
because its against his principles and yet Muslims expect Police to protect 
them when they march in London calling for British soldiers to be killed.
  Astounding!!!
