i am sure that the slits started up there original band between 76--77 with
that intersting blend of a bit of rock/punk/roots muddled together, which
brought forth an original sound.
ari-up,,proberly the other members as well, were very heavily into the
dub/roots/ heavy-regae matter of music years ago, proberly down to her--ari
ups- connection with--step dad of the future
(john lydon) who was totally obsessed with it,proberly still is !
what made the s;its so unique back then, was the fact that they were four
white skinned femails, doing a style that was totally unexspected back
then, not in the punk world,as roots music was kinda punk musics cousin, but
in the mainstream, the slits were totally rejected--to controversal-
the late great john peel championed the slits music,as he did with many
other diverse bands at the time, usual d.js of the day,had no depth to want
to exsperiment, only when new wave hit!!
as for recently,i have not seen the slits play for many, many years 78,it
seems that they are on a nostolgic wave, thats ok,it will introduce
generations now to there music----i thought the--cut--
first long player of theres was interesting, have not played it for years
though, sterio broken...may get on c.d,as it would be interesting to see what
i think of those tracks in 07 :-)
