A recent article (linked below) that appeared in the Wall St Journal made
a stink lately, becuase it mentions several ways of circumventing company
IT policies. You might be able to use an external proxy server to get
around your company's web proxy blocking your attempts to surf. There's
some other tricks in there too:

If that doesn't work, I've also seen companies out there that still allow
you to go out around (as opposed to through) their web proxy. Just go into
Internet Explorer (most places use IE as opposed to something like Firefox
for example), Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections tab -> LAN Settings
button and remove the proxy entry. May or may not be configurable...most
companies will have this locked down by Group Policy or whatever, but some
don't.

You can also of course use a portable Internet device that surfs
wirelessly like a mobile or blackberry, or find out the IP address of the
website in question and try that as opposed to the URL, etc. Be cafeful
though, if it's a work device...better to use your own.

Be careful cos I've seen people busted for email and surfing activity.

Final tip: In NZ, if you haven't signed an 'acceptable use policy' or
similar IT equipment / use policy, it's very hard or impossible for them
to bust you for your surfing activity. Don't forget though that your
company email is the property of the company, regardless of who you use it
to talk to. Always a good policy to keep your personal email to your
personal address...or if not, use the encryption method mentioned in the
article.
