You know, I was sitting in front of my evil capitalist pc 'tother day watching a German-language documentary about punk circa '77. There was a bit of footage of Clash & Subway Sect in it, etc. Even then some of the punks interviewed (members of other bands) were bemoaning the whole fucking SCENE. Like punks *suddenly* getting into reggae after hearing the Clash liked it, etc. Fashion victims - as per fucking usual in all scenes. Even then they reckoned only a few of the bands worthwhile.
"I take drugs & get drunk, 'cos I'm a punk!" - groundbreaking stuff !!!! By the end of the 70's there were probably more chavs & bullyboys calling themselves punk, using it as an excuse to kick heads in, while the figureheads quickly distanced themselves... as for 'punk' in the 80's - let's not mention it!!! Oh well, Crass & some hardcore of note.
Oh & of course, Punk was such a musical revolution, they would've grabbed onto full-on experimentation such as Throbbing Gristle with both hands, surely? Hardly - they ran in parallel & had little cross-over. Not until people like John Lydon openly sanctioned experimental music. Just another fucking herd...
Should ruffle some feathers!!!! Pay me £2 & you can have a polaroid of me wanking whilst sporting a mohawk. That's Punk for ya!!!
