I don't hear any similarities between the 2 bands. Maybe you mean the really early (shitty) Converge stuff which was full-on hardcore with little to no metal elements. I see what you mean about the bird thing though.

The Converge LP is a direct rip off of everything Tragedy have done over 
the past few years. Just Google Tragegy "Nerve Damage" and their 2003 
"Vengeance" LP and compare it to what Converge try to do nowadays. 
Converge blow -- they even have a song called "Vengeance" on their new 
LP. They even try to rip off Tragedy's album art. (The dove/raven 
motif). It's pretty blatant.
