So if I "treat myself with respect," yet treat women like my pet dog, that's 
a good thing? Normal, well adjusted civilized people actually respect 
themselves under such conditions?!? So I guess under Islam, women who are 
regarded as "below" their male counterparts have a pretty big handicap right 
outta the gate. Good thing us guys can keep 'em under our heel and maintain 
a healthy level of "self respect," eh?

Big newsflash here, bright guy. If you have to treat an entire gender with a 
different set of rules and guidelines to the point they're one step above a 
pet, you have no self respect to begin with.
