Uh no.
You're wrong.
The materials used to create vinyl is a form of PVC.  Sometimes the plastic 
is recycled UNLESS it is virgin vinyl.  Which means it is brand new plastic. 
  It is known that it takes more energy/fossil fuels to create vinyl.  One 
of many reasons why CDs are significantly cheaper.

As far as playing them on your system was not the debate.  And what do you 
think is taking up more space in a landfill?
