[kj] OT: My News / New Zealand

Well, seeing as everyone else posts their own news and pics, thought I might share a bit of mine. 

 

A few years ago I placed an ad on a website for people who have lost touch, to try and find my dad who I'd not seen since I was 12.  Heard nothing.  Thought little more about it.  

 

A few weeks ago I got an email from someone in New Zealand saying they'd just seen my ad and thought they knew my dad.  He'd asked them to try and find me via the internet.  I thought it might have been a scam - "Send us £10 and we'll give you your dad back."  Anyway, the next day I got an email from my long lost dad.  I knew it was him because his email address was his old car reg plate number he had back in the 70s/80s.  No-one else would have known it.

 

It was all bloody weird.  Anyway, I got another message about "water under the bridge" and found out stuff I never knew.  (My mum never talks about the past or anything.)  The next morning he wrote again saying he was flying to the UK that weekend!  Two days later we met up, met his wife, he met my other half and we had a meal and loads of booze!  Within the space of five days I went from not knowing if he was alive or dead, to sitting drinking with him and chatting about old times.  (I also have 2 older half-brothers - I only ever knew about one.)

 

Anyway, he stayed in the UK for 3 weeks and we saw quite a bit of each other.  Discovered where I get some of my traits from - felt like a fog had shifted.  That's it, really.  I'll attach a pic - he's happier in it than he looks!

PS: So I'm off to New Zealand next year for a visit...
