There's an argument afoot that The Buzzcocks' "You Tear Me Up" off their 
first LP was the first d-beat song; the first song to use the beat 
popularized by hardcore in the 80s, esp. UK82 bands like Discharge, 
after whom the d-beat (discharge-beat) is named. It's one of those 
arguments, like whether Middle Class, Bad Brains, etc., were the 1st 
hardcore band, that never gets solved, and which all the cool people 
think is dumb, but which audiophiles obsess over nonetheless.
