[kj] the essence

Me too. Those first two albums are excellent. Got into them aged 11
when I started outgrowing the teenybop pop like Duran Duran and
Kajafuckinggoogoo. It was Queen that started me on the long road to
heavy guitars.

Back to rock anthems: Kyuss - "Thumb". Lame lyrics but what a monster
riff! That's got to be the biggest rocking riff ever.

Cheers,
Janean

I'll stick up for Queen anyday. I'm not too familiar with the album Jazz
but I know that Mustapha and Don't Stop Me Now are both on there so it
surely can't be ALL bad. Also gotta give it up for the rockers like Now
I'm Here and Keep Yourself Alive as well as the more poppy, schlocky
fair like I Want To Break Free and Radio Ga Ga.

King Crimson really came out with some amazing stuff in the 80s. The 70s
stuff is ok, here and there. Same with the 90s and beyond. But the 3
Belew-era albums from the 80s are really awesome.

Tool are completely up their own asses and have resided there for years.
Opiate and Undertow are both great. It's all downhill from there.
Lateralus, in particular, is such a shitty album. 10 000 Days has some
decent moments.

Well, I'm not going to get all red in the face attempting to defend
Queen here. Much like their US counterparts in Kiss, I heard them
before I ever layed ears on anything even remotely punk. Queen were
DELIBERATE in their pomp-rock ridiculousness, but at least they
didn't take themselves so dreadfully seriously (i.e. those gents in
E.L.P, Yes, etc.) And, they made some absolutely fantastic music
along the way. Sure, "Bicycle Race" is vaudevillian nonsense, but
listen to "Sheer Heart Attack," "The Prophet's Song," "Fight From The
Inside," "Stone Cold Crazy" -- they wrote some great stuff.

No matter what, they're far better than Bob fucking Dylan.
