Wow, that's heavy! Not sure I can handle that today! ; )
(But somebody's got to do it, right?)

Cheers,

Bands like COLDPLAY give me more of an ominous pre-apocalyptic premonition than holes in the magnetosphere.

Talking of which:

Coldplay?
Well... I heard them years ago on a Fierce Panda sampler CD well before Yellow came out & I was very impressed.
I think success on this scale blights people opinion of bands & also naturally alters the direction of bands like this.
On the FP CD they were a pretty good indie band.
Based on this I bought their 1st two albums & thought that bar the odd song they were generally pretty good, especially the 2nd album.
I quite like Geoff Badgers guitar style - although far from unique, it's in a similar vein to a lot of guitarists I like.
X&Y I lost interest though there are a couple of OK tracks & some pretty good guitar riffs in there.
Working from home & depending on what I'm doing I quite like a lot of fairly non-aggressive stuff to work to (Blonde Redhead, Sigur Ross, Mew, Elbow, Electric Music AKA, Shadow Puppets, Red House Painters etc) - stuff I can let drift over me.
I wonder if these were still a 'just below the radar indie band' with the production values & budgets associated therewith whether there would be a lot more interest here?
I wonder whether Killing Joke (stop laughing) had similarly gone stellar (stop laughing) would most of us have lost interest?
If I am honest, my interest in KJ has plummeted quite considerably of late.
With recent efforts there's been far too much 'same ole same ole' and for me that 'spark' that made them 'the most exciting thing I had ever heard in my life' seems to have been long extinguished (probably in cheap wine)
I hope it comes back but I doubt it will.

There's been little talk of this supposed new album which makes me wonder whether that's really going to happen?
Any news anyone?
If it does I really hope they come up with something different - they are in a position to do something unique.
if not it'll very probably be the final nail in the coffin for me.
