Meta in that context basically means ‘self-referential’, so for example meta-philosophy is philosophizing about the nature of philosophy itself. Here’s part of a definition from Wiki:

Therefore a meta-killing joke is a ‘killing joke’ that refers to Killing Joke. *grin*

 

Made sense in my noggin when I wrote it, then again my noggin might be past its use-by date :-)

How about "meta-killing joke"? I kinda get it, but not entirely. 

(ab. when i wrote everyone's heard 

of kj-influenced bands but not KJ itself..)
