does anyone on the gathering know the inside scoop about the sound recording techniques for "the tube" program on uk channel 4 back in the day. i noticed the particular tone of sound present on every performance whether it be visage or killing joke or whomever:
it is kind of a "klonky" compressed tone.
i looked it up on google and wikipedia had a brief mention of the "strange" sound produced in the tube programs', wiki's description was a "phased" tone. but i'm not so sure it is phase coherance, could be i guess but maybe a microphone or compressor used at the studio has something to do with it as well.
also noticed a similar sound in the recordings from the show "the friday night show".maybe the two programs shared sound engineering distributors.
any help?
