Maybe it was an AC30 with the top-boost mod - obviously bringing up the
top-end, which would make it louder overall.

I have considered one of these myself (the AC30 sounding one)

I used to own an old Vox (not entirely sure what it was . . like an AC30 but louder) . . . I really wish I hadn't sold it, it sounded fantastic with a Marshall Guvnor in front of it

I just bought one of these after reading a 5* review in guitarist

fuckin' brilliant!
v simple: gain, tone & volume headphones, an aux in for CD/MP3 etc &  
I tried it on 3 guitars & it fits all jacks sockets (strat type, top  
& side)
Great sounds - surprisingly broad range - & brilliant for noodling  
when you can't be arsed with cables & the like & all for roughly £30.00.
a gimmick it is not
I recommend!
