Years ago, my asian/muslim mate (Moh) was recounting to me the time his car overheated & he was fucking about under the bonnet, trying to sort it out. He reminisced about how he went to a nearby shop to get some help & was embarrassed 'cos his hands were covered in oil & were black from it. It was just a conversation about car woes.

At this point my black friend jumped in & started challenging seriously as to "What's wrong with having black hands?"

It occurred to me & Moh that the prick was nothing more than a race-card playing wanker, of which there are MANY. You know, those people that my lefty friends don't believe exist.

Sounds a bit like this story too, though I admit my bias in favour of Lydon. Nevertheless, I can imagine his thicko mates behaving in typical grunt fashion, but was that John? We shall see...

PS. I LOVE DOUBLE-STANDARDS, OF COURSE THEY DON'T HARM SOCIETY & BREED RESENTMENT - THAT'S FOR RACISTS. Whatever 'racist' means these days. INJUSTICE FOR ALL!!!!!

I quite like Bloc Party in an angular, I'm aware of the beat combo known as
Gang Of Four m'lud, but with mildly irritating vocals, sort of way. They
have gone down in my estimation as a result of this, however; smacks too
much of publicity-seeking to me. I really don't understand why it's
inappropriate for someone to have a "black" attitude to anything; it's
entirely possible to have a Christian, or Welsh, or male attitude, so why
not a black one? All of these are generalisations, but since when is making
generalisations verboten? Pleased they illustrated the article with such a
neutral picture of Mr Lydon, though.

Even the article makes clear that anything even whiffing mildly of racism
came from Lydon's "associates" rather than from him. Good on them for
punching Ricky Wilson, too.
