[kj] Sex Pistols singer faces race attack claims

This isn't about snobbery though, like I said I've never even been to a Poly, let alone a University! State educated shit, me! Luckily I don't work in a field that's massively into the 'old boys network', so I've been able to make my own 'success', but yeah fair comment about old boy networks, etc.

The point I'm trying to make here is that you MIGHT be more suited to the job of music training than someone else, but 'equality for all' means you may not get the job, for all the wrong reasons. Ultimately, in this example, the pupils will suffer.

It's all about keeping a balance between the two, innit.

in theory me and a bricky should be treated as equeal if we have obtained the same quals,we should be able to go for the same job,but then again,it goes deeper than that, with other factors beeing taken into consideration when a final desigion is beeing made about who will finally get the post/job,yep theres a bit of bloody snobbery that goes on which i do not agree with, that at times certain members of society are discriminated against all down to the educational bac k ground, even going as far back as what school they attended---its all wrong, but where theres competiion concerning a job,cut throat tactics are some times applied unto which person is picked by that employer--its always been like that, its better than it used to be,meaning the gates have opened up a bit more for all, less stuffy attitude, however the narrow mindedness of it all in attitude,is still evident unfortunatly!

does that make sence ;) i was getting muddled writing it down lol

I'm all for giving everyone equal opportunities, damn straight! But giving everyone an A is clearly not going to change a damn thing, other than to make things worse!

The other side of this is that if you & a bricky are 'equal' as is the idea of this rubbish, then the bricky can go teach classical music, surely? Well, he's equally qualified, so why not? We're all equal after, aren't we? Or is it that everyone is different & socialists can't cope with that reality?

hi ade how are you? anyway my 2pee

so that every one is given an opportunity of sorts to gain similiar quals, equal opportunities and all that, but at the end of the day,we are not really all seen as equeal especially when it comes to obtaining a job with said qualifications!

Nothing, of course! What I meant by my flippant use of “They made the whole country educated” was that they haven’t actually improved the quality of education; they’ve simply made it possible for everyone to gain a rubbish qualification.

So that we all look equal.

<They made the whole country educated>

what's wrong with that?? I remember a news report in the early nineties (it precipitated a long discussion with my Irish business partner) which stated Britain had one of the lowest intakes of tertiary education in Europe (around 35% compared to Ireland's 50%) - is this good?? I doubt it, how aspirational are the majority of the 65% who don't feel able to further themselves in education? My ex missus is always snotty and elitist about this New Labour policy, she went to Exeter Uni in the 80s.......

<By lowering standards so much there’s no way of telling average people from the truly brainy.>

employ them, you'll soon see..........

it easier to pass the exams, that'll be great for the results, everyone will be able to get an A - aren't

That’s already happened. Every year, without fail, we are told more kids are passing their exams and getting Grade As. When I did my GCSEs in 1988 I remember only one girl in my year getting all A grades.

When New Labour came in in 1997 they banged on about “Education, education, education” – and didn’t they do well? They made the whole country educated! By lowering standards so much there’s no way of telling average people from the truly brainy.

And as for praise for the sake of praise, how about the EMA? Students at college only need to turn up to receive £30 a week. Surely that’s the wrong kind of encouragement?

That's excellent Greg - we have none-stop intervention from our govt. & stupid do-gooders who are

constantly changing the way we educate here. Making things 'more accessible'. Yeah, let's make

it easier to pass the exams, that'll be great for the results, everyone will be able to get an A - aren't

we doing well! FFS...

In the UK equality means that one child cannot be more intelligent than another - we're not that far

from this now. It's almost as if the do-gooders despise clever kids who don't need their fucking hand

held all the time. Sound familiar?

So much for diversity.

I pretty much agree w/ you on this Brendan. As a US high school special education teacher, I don't spend a lot of time giving paper-thin praise to my students--when they do get good grades, that's praise enough for them. (And I 'm pretty honest about telling them when they're doing well and when they're not). Also, about 10 years ago I worked teaching dyslexic adults how to read--they needed no praise at all; they were happier than a pig in shit every time their reading improved a bit!
