In Christopher Hibbert's "Roundheads and Cavaliers", a gentleman in it
refers in his diary to "punks" which Hibbert annotates as "whores". Is
this the origin of the word, or does it go back to before the English
Civil War ? 1640's. The colonies were founded after 1607, so
theoretically it doesnt disclaim the word origionating in the US,
although they were speaking our language then.
