In terms of Dragon force and guitar speed demons, Steve Morse, one of my personal favourite guitar gods, says it well when he says that speed tends to work well for you when you’re a teen and everything is about me me me now now now, it articulates the vibe that most teens are running on, but you tend to grow out of it and start to appreciate timing, nuance, personality and emotion.

 

Hence I prefer Slash to Petrucci for example. Not that I’d ever run Petrucci down.
