[kj] The Fall

I think that The Fall are a force of nature, and have loved them since
"Bingo Master's Breakout". I go and see them as often as I can, as there's
always something entertaining going on. Recently (18 months or so ago), they
turned up four hours late at the Bristol Bierkeller minus a drummer, and
co-opted the drummer from the local hair metal support act, who had clearly
never heard a single song of theirs - songs would pause between the verse
and the chorus as band members huddled around him making human beatbox
noises. Funniest gig I've seen in a long time. Last time I saw them, MES was
wearing trousers that still had the dye-filled alarm thing pinned to them.
They're a truly great band, and MES is even more like the person you really
don't want to be sitting next to on a bus, which is a good thing in a
singer, I think.
The new album is their best since "Country On The Click" (although I
preferred the leaked mix), in my view, although "Blindness" from "Fall Heads
Roll" is magnificent. I didn't really rate "Post Reformation TLC" (which I
understand sold less than 9000 copies worldwide!), but the thing about Fall
albums is that if you don't like the latest, there'll be another one along
in a couple of weeks. "Imperial Wax Solvent" has, according to iTunes, been
played by me 43 times since it came out!

The new Fall album Imperial Wax Solvent is a real cracker and a real return
to form after the last outing Post Reformation TLC which for me was
disappointing. The track 50 Year Old Man is vintage Smith and probably a
taster of the wit in his new book which is next the list.
Anyone else got views on either?
