Palin was no doubt ill equipped for the position, but note this report you
linked came from Fox News who..

are attempting to spin the story of the election, by giving people on the
"right" a scapegoat - which will make it easier for them to stomach all the
jubilation elsewhere in the country. They would rather believe - or paint
the picture - that McCain's campaign lost the election, through bad
decisions and tactics (which certainly didn't help), instead of American's
voting for someone who they believe in.  

the right-wingers so badly want history to view Obama's election as a
mistake, a series of errors, and not social evolution, or however it may be
perceived on the left.

The specter of President Palin forced the hand.

It was just revealed she did not know Africa was even a continent. She 
thought it was a country. And John "My Fellow Prisoners" McCain is so 
old she could've become Pres. and had her hand on the nuke arsenal.
