I remember some time ago we discussed the research that was coming out
leading to the conclusion that bullshitting kids with constant good press
for effort was actually detrimental, they could see through it. Being
taken aside and spoken to, or shown up in front of the class for effort,
is not what most kids are into. What kids generally want when they can't
do something as well as others is a chance to improve themselves, cos they
know as soon as they hit the school yard the other kids aren't going to
sugar coat things like teacher or Mum does. Kids are brutal little fuckers
for pointing out weakness :)
