In the interest of keeping things all over the place, and not drifting too far from our realm, may I add Robert Fripp? (played with The Damned and Orb after all)
On the other end, I think Bob Mould is often overlooked for his playing.
Allan Holdsworth is one of my faves, but I don't see him fitting in here.

I'm not much of a big rock fan these days and haven't listened to Page (didn't really like Van Halen) in a long time. My personal rock pantheon would be, with preferences from their careers:
?
Geordie (KJ)
Daniel Ash (Bauhaus and Love & Rockets stuff)
John McGeoch (PiL and Magazine stuff)
Tom Verlaine (Televison and his early-to-mid-80s solo work)
?
There are other guitarists I enjoy listening to- the Cocteaus guys, Andy Gill, guys from Wire, Dave Navarro (yes!)- but those four are my all-time favourites.
?

I'd add Denis D'Amour (Piggy) of Voivod... just as Geordie: creator of a unique sound!

I'd add Andy Gill of Gang of Four.
