Are Google and Yahoo the same thing now?

I signed up for Yahoo Mail yonks ago but didn't really use it (with
ChoonyFish name).  I'm trying to add my new Google email address onto Yahoo
Groups but it's telling me I'm already logged in as someone else...

How confusing.
