Not trying???? I can't think of many people in their late forties who sound like they're trying THAT HARD!! You don't like the tunes; fine. But "push yourself beyond the limits of human endurance!" equals not trying? Holy Moly.
I like the album a lot. Not their best album but This Tribal Antidote and Majestic, in particular, are stellar. I thought it was an improvement over the 2003 album (which I also liked). Keep in mind that I also like all of Outside the Gate so you may find my opinions suspect...

For all its myriad, indefensible flaws, OUTSIDE THE GATE is at least a finished work. The songs, however bloated and rife with dated, embarassing flourishes, are complete, flushed out *SONGS*, not just riffs bolstered by tuneless grunting and muddled audio syrup. Jaz doesn't even sound like he's trying on HOSANNAS.

With all due respect to Oliver, I think HOSANNAS is the worst thing KJ
have ever done (yes, worse than OUTSIDE THE GATE).

Competition is a barbaric, insensitive ritual that reeks of social Darwinism.
We cannot allow the fittest to survive on our pages. Your loss is someone
else's gain, and your gain is someone else's loss. Therefore, losers contribute
to the society and winners take away from it. Being a winner is unethical, while
a society of losers is happy and striving as a collective. In the spirit of diversity,
inclusiveness, and collectivism our contests shall have no winners.
Everyone is declared a loser, which in our book means an ethical team player.
