Well, I always have been a Joe Jackson fan, and was even going to pick up his autobiography.  Now I have second thoughts.  It sounds like he has some social phobia going, a vibe I always got from him.  I know I would have been scared to approach him because of that....  I am sorry you had such a bad experience.  
 
Just out of curiosity, Alex, who was the most amicable "famous" peep that you approached? 
For me, it was Robyn Hitchcock, but it was after his concert, so that doesn't really count ;)  He was very goofy and just passing through.  I said the stupidest thing, of course, something like "my, you are much taller than I had thought" and he said "you are too, dear".  LOL

I just read the blog and I don't think you did anything wrong. He can't be cool and just say "Thanks!"? Lame. You'd think after all these years he'd have settled into some kind of "stock-answer" routine with fans.Leigh

First time I saw Killing Joke: Summer of 1989 at the Cat Club (since torn down) on East 13th Street. Pre-EXTREMITIES. The flexi-disc of "Beautiful Dead" was out. Atkins on drums. Taif on bass. Not sure who was on keybs (Bechdel?). In the crowd: Joey Ramone of the Ramones, Johnny Feedback of KRAUT (local boys) and Handsome Dick Manitoba of the Dictators. And me --- practically welling up with joy.\
Incidentally, for those sitting on fence about picking up the new PEEL SESSIONS disc -- DO IT!! The last three tracks (a STOMPING, slower, more deliberate version of "Tension," a romp through "Exit" and THE BEST VERSION OF "UNSPEAKABLE" I'VE EVER HEARD (way better than studio rendition, in my opinion). ESSSSSSSENTIAL!!!!!!!
