I dont think that the death penalty is a good thing.
But that is a different issue here , the issue is that the British government shouldn't have interfered with a case that involves a convicted drug smuggler .
The crime happened in China and China should deal with it.
Its the same a that hacker guy , he broke the law , why is the British Government campaigning for him not to get extradited ?
There was recently a Nigerian/British woman who got away with smuggling drugs in Laos . She got the death penalty and then got away with it.
A British passport isn't a document that allows you to go abroad and commit crimes .

I m not sure what the Chinese rules are , but under British law, if you die in prison, then you get buried in prison and beside, I dont think that his bodies return is anything to do with the British Government .
Its up to his Family to bring the body back and it is quite expensive to return bodies .
Maybe his family could broker a deal ?
Sell off some body parts and use the money for repatriation.
If they sold both kidneys , after the repatriation costs and other expenses , they may even make a tidy profit .
