have just read some more on Plank...he worked with The Damned (didn't know that!) and apparently Eno recommended him as producer of U2's Joshua Tree but Plank said 'I cannot work with that singer'...

Didn't Connie Plank produce BTATS & NT? It probably explains the very 'clean' sound.
They're a bit glossy and the bass treatment is a bit hit and miss (sometimes lacks gravity), but I still like them :D
KJ have always seemed to have issues on the bass front, when recording. Fire Dances is a bit thin, too.
