WinAmp?

And I was most amused that WMP in the Windows 7 beta ate the first 20 or so
seconds of any mp3 file it found on your network! Classy bit of programming,
that. Still, it could have converted everything to WMA.

At the end of the day I want a little piece of inconspicuous software that
plays media files & makes playlists, and maybe has an equaliser. Something
free, unobtrusive, won't constantly try to wrest my file associations over
to the dark side, install Google fucking toolbar, take 10 mins to install,
loads up the iStore every time it opens, reminding me that the kids are
all listening to Rhianna these days - yay - and sinks its hooks into the
operating system so that if I try to remove it I have to rip half my OS's
brain-stem out, set up a hearrtbeat back to the Deathstar in order to
*update* itself periodically...

In fact I dislike Windows Media Player as well for similar reasons, but it
never tried to steal our files, precious, and make them it's own *growl*
