That reminds of my when my family's beloved cat died. We gave her a semi-Egyptian funeral. (No, we didn't mummify her.) However, I did put a few of her fave toys and a can of cat food in the coffin. To the best of my knowledge, she has not risen from that spot since. ; )
Don't worry, Gatherers: This was a long, long, long time ago.
So, I can totally relate to the grand send-off for the pet rat.
Cheers,
k.w.

We gave a friend's pet rat a viking funeral, a few years back.
We made him a little boat, tied the little feller on it, over some kindling, and pushed him out onto the river that went through the park, alight. :)

Btw, hasn't every guy at some point said he wants to have a viking ship funeral with the flames and stuff...?

Nice suggestion, jo -- almost Swiftian in its proposal.
However, I doubt anyone would be interested in what would be left of me. I figure the coyotes and vultures can do their job, as nature intended them to. ; )
But I do love your recipe.
  Bon appetite,
