Here's my take on the whole OTG debacle.
 
There are some Joke moments that (IMHO, of course) I don't think quite measure up in terms of songwriting (most of Firedances, for example) or in terms of actual *sound* (most of BTATS), but there are comparatively few in which both song and sound disappoint, and most of those are on Outside The Gate (and Democracy too). Even albums I'm not fond of as a whole (Firedances, BTATS) have a few choice cuts (Let's All Go, Chessboards) that still get an airing every so often. On OTG the 'band' (haha) sound terrible and the songs are naff too.
 
Now, who's going to be the first to get accused of not being a 'true' Joke fan? Over the years Killing Joke have provided more than enough blindingly good songs (most bands don't even manage one); there's no need to elevate their lesser moments too.
