I know what you mean about the deterrent effect. One day I had to face
the danger of becoming an aging hipster stereotype, when the bicycle
mechanic with a standalone moustache and clever shirt also has day-0
Wolf Parade on the sound system. Some of them are good people, and
occasionally right on the spot. Still you have to ask yourself.

TB is right to mention Springsteen and Tom Petty. I enjoy '75 - '84
Springsteen well enough, and the overall craft, but not a favorite.
Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade & related, even Frog Eyes or Destroyer take
something of that sound. Now the angles are sharper, contrast
brighter, and a shambles toward Roxy Music and Talking Heads.

As for Tom Petty, have I missed anything? Anyone want to make a case
for a used LP of one of the better-regarded Heartbreakers LPs?
